Customer Documentation: Neonode® Touch Sensor Module User's Guide : .Holographic Display Demo v1.8
The Holographic Display showcase how the zForce AIR Touch Sensor can be used to achieve mid-air interaction with a hologram. This sci-fi adaptation makes for a clean environment with a futuristic user experience. We at Neonode hope to inspire with all the capabilities the zForce AIR Touch Sensor can provide in industries where contactless integration is beneficial.
Description
Achieve contactless touch integration with a holographic display. The hologram is created from a projected image of a display, which gives the illusion of having the display’s image floating in the air. By having an application showing on the display, the user could control its interface with the use of our zForce AIR Touch Sensor. The sensor is positioned in the same direction as the projected image, which means that the user can interact with the hologram by touching it. This interaction is done through hand gestures without having to make contact to any surface.
Construction
The Holographic Display is equipped with a zForce AIR Touch Sensor, a display, and an Aska3D plate, placed in an aluminium profile assembly. By having the display and the Aska3D plate mounted in the preferred angle allows the display to get projected by the plate, which gives the illusion of the hologram. The sensor is mounted aligned to the projected image of the display, providing an interactive area for the interface.
For this demo – we have the zForce AIR sensor and the display connected to a Windows 10 PC using USB hidpipe, the interface gets projected and the user can control the OS and all of its applications with supported hand gestures on the projected display in the air.
Adaptation
Clean Environment
Contactless integration provides a germ and smudge free solution for challenging environments. The technology of the zForce AIR Touch Sensor allows the user to make interactions using any object, which is beneficial for environments that require protective gear, such as gloves. Contactless integration is also an alternative for environments that cannot risk dirty equipment.
Unlike the standard touch screen, a contactless holographic display requires less maintenance in regards of cleaning, as well as a lower risk of spreading bacteria, dirt, and viruses.
Security
Since the user controls the interface with air gestures, there is no fingerprints or smudge marks on a display that can reveal the users personal information such as passwords or IDs.
Amusement and Advertisement
An interactive hologram is a real game changer and sure is an eye catcher. Even though the hologram is not optimal for wider view angle, the futuristic elements would get a lot attention.
This technology can be applied to a range on projects that can be used in entertainment and/or commercial use, such as restaurant menus, games, or interactable panels for advertisement. Countless adaptations of the holographic display can be made only bound to the creator’s imagination.
Accessibility
The end user have access to control any environment in the holographic display supported by the zForce AIR Touch Sensor Firmware, which includes Windows/Linux OS and I2C. We have created a SDK and Arduino Library that can be considered a starting point for many projects. The zForce AIR Touch Sensor can be adapted into many projects ranging from application development- to IoT based ones.
We at Neonode want to promote our customers to feel creative and help them find impressive and efficient solutions for their projects.
